Ookla-owned Speedtest found that Starlink’s average internet speed has dropped. This was reported on the company’s website.
Based on the data collected by the service, analysts concluded that between January and March, the speed of Starlink slowed down in several regions. Thus, in the USA and Canada, the average speed of satellite Internet reached 90.55 and 94.4 megabits per second, while in the fourth quarter of 2021 it was 104.97 and 106.64 megabits per second, respectively.
At the same time, Ookla experts noted that globally, Starlink Internet speed tends to increase. In May, journalists from the Wccftech publication noticed that Starlink speed in the United States exceeded a record 300 megabits per second. In some countries in Europe, Starlink outperforms the average download speeds of traditional ISPs.
The report also states that if we consider the download speed of Starlink over the years, then for subscribers from the United States and Canada, the performance of the service as a whole has increased. Also, Starlink can provide much faster connection speeds than competing offerings from Viasat and HughesNet. “More companies are looking to compete with Starlink and launch their own solutions,” the authors of the report summed up.
At the end of May, it became known that the number of Starlink satellite Internet subscribers reached a record high of 400,000 users. The service is active in 48 US states and 36 countries.
